During the trade show days last month in Berlin, the organizers behind the new Berlin-based denim/heritage wear trade show Selvedge Run revealed more details on their upcoming event in summer 2015.

From July 7-9, the show ought to be located in the Rheinbeckhallen in Berlin-Schöneweide, the birthplace of electronic goods company AEG, next to the river Spree and in direct neighborhood with art galleries and music production companies.
Here, Selvedge Run shall occupy a minimum of 1,200 sqm offering exhibition opportunities not only indoors, but also outdoors: in tents or on a boat in the specifically rented marina. Moreover, one will have the option to book private exhibition or meeting spaces in the so-called “Kranhaus”, 8-10 minutes away from the main location. According to co-organizer Andreas Becker, the place and financial funding for this space and the trade show “is secured for years”.
Free shuttle services are planned during the day to connect the off-site location with alternative trade show Seek and the Berlin-Mitte district.

Exhibition space will be available from 10 sqm (special arrangements are available for craftsmen to start even with 5 sqm). Prices will be €150-180 per sqm – regardless of how big your brand or booth space is. For co-organizer Jörg Shane Brandenburg (who is also buyer for the Burg & Schild denim store in Berlin), it is very important to give also smaller brands an exhibition platform. “Many of them do not have the marketing budgets to compete with G-Star or Replay,” he explained. Furthermore, Brandenburg highlighted his ambition to not stick strictly to the small niche of denim and heritage-only brands, but to open up for brands from related segments such as the outdoor/lifestyle or biking sector. “We want to get out of the niche market that many of the brands from our segment are in. In the end it’s about timeless, valuable fashion which does not exploit and destroy resources.”

Selvedge Run stated that it would love to host brands such as 3sixteen, Chippewa, Edwin, Filson, Stevenson Overall Co., Iron Heart, Blue Blanket, Rogue Territory, Indigofera, Merz B. Schwanen, Nigel Cabourn, Tellason, Stetson, Pike Brothers, RRL, Red Wing Shoes, Schott, Spiewak, Tanner Goods, The Real McCoy’s or Wolverine. “Now we need your support and we hope that people will commit”, said Brandenburg after the show presentation. He reported that brands like Indigofera or Stetson have already confirmed their participation in the show.

Brandenburg and his team had the idea to start a new Berlin denim show after Karl-Heinz Müller announced to move Bread & Butter (including its L.O.C.K. area, home of the respective heritage/authenticity denim brands) to Barcelona last summer. After a season of no events in Tempelhof, Müller announced to move back there with his show from July 2-4 last Friday. Addressing Müller’s latest plans, Brandenburg stated that the show will not adjust its dates but commit to the schedule of the other Berlin shows (July 7-9) and work together with them. Brandenburg: “The question will not be: do the stores and buyers come to BBB, Seek or Selvedge Run, but do they come the week before or the week after. Staying in Berlin for both dates, that is 7-8 days – who can afford that?”
