A new initiative, “On Stage,” will take place at the next edition of Milano Unica, the Italian textile trade show, on Sept. 8, opening day.

”On Stage” is a fashion show of ten upcoming international designers. Each of them will present 15 of their best designs. “The aim of this initiative is to offer a new service to our exhibitors, visitors and fashion insiders, and create an occasion for young designers and international visitors such as, for instance, the US and Japanese, to come back to Milan and see the best of top European textile offers,” said Pier Luigi loro Piana, President Milano Unica.

The ten designers selected by Franca Sozzani will include Sara Lanzi, Ilaria Nistri, Emilio de La Morena, Todd Lynn and Charles Anastase for womenswear, and Thomas Engel Hart, Blaak Homme and Maurizio Miri for menswear. Two more will soon be confirmed by the fair’s organization.

The next edition of Milano Unica takes place from Sept. 8-11 in the Portello area, near the Milan city center. The show expects a drop in the number of exhibitors, but 500 have already confirmed their presence.

As a follow-up to the newly launched exhibition Prima-Moda Tessuto, the new fair launched by Prato Trade for pre-collections as part of Pitti Immagine Filati, Milano Unica is also considering creating a new event anticipating the usual exhibiting schedules and supporting general requests from the market. No actual changes, however, will take place before 2010.
