"You just have to stay positive about everything and be true to yourself. Just keep staying positive: The store is positive and the even the collection hanging over there is colorful and positive,” said Consuelo Castiglioni, in town to toast the opening of Marni’s second flagship store on the Upper East Side of Manhattan on Tuesday. Indeed, gray skies and tepid economic news didn’t stop fans of the stylish brand from turning out to fete the 2,700-sq.-foot former art gallery space. Working with Sybarite architects, Castiglioni installed her signature mirror-polished stainless steel structures throughout the two-story space, but cleverly offset them with large geometric ceiling cutouts covered with stretch Barrisol fabric, abstract trapedoizal openings, petal-like benches, randomly suspended natural fiberglass mannequins and clear Plexiglass display cases. What's more? Shoppers can not only find some of the snappiest footwear, sunglasses, totes and lingerie of the season in this lilac universe, but also a cool selection of clothing and accessories created exclusively for the new store.
