Spanish retailer Mango partners with Columbian singer Shakira and UNICEF to launch a special World Cup edition in order to support unprivileged children in South Africa. Just in time for the kick-off of the World Cup, the “Waka Waka”-T-shirt collection will be available starting today. The design of the four different styles – two for men and two for women – represents the spirit and energy of the host country of this year’s World Cup with the slogans “Waka Waka” and “This Time for Africa”. Retail prices are €22,90 for the women shirts and €19 for men’s shirts. The sale proceeds benefit the Barefoot Foundation, a charity organisation founded by Shakira for the needs of children in Columbia and the rest of the world, and initiatives for the education of children in South Africa. One of these initiatives is for example the South Africa East Observatory School – a place for orphans or children from war zones – which is supported by UNICEF. “The true spirit of this World Cup demands a long-lasting contribution,” Shakira says, who will perform her official World Cup song “Waka Waka – This Time for Africa” both at the opening concert of the World Cup on June 10, as well as at the closing ceremony on July 11.
