British sportswear brand Lonsdale London UK ( announced last week that it inked an agreement with Check Group LLC of New York City, a full sportswear house of brands, to make Check Group its new North American license.

"Our designation of Check Group LLC as our North American licensee is a natural evolvement for our company as we have experienced significant success in the international marketplace with our standalone stores in England, Australia and Japan and with extensive distribution in Germany and Italy," said Howard Moher, Lonsdale’s managing director. "We are now ready to bring this brand to the United States and Canada."

Lonsdale’s US debut will be at next week’s Westcoast Exclusive trade show in Las Vegas, where brand’s men’s spring 2005 collection will be unveiled to American buyers. The women’s collection will be brought to the States later.

Lonsdale, a brand known throughout Europe for its often boxing-inspired streetwear, was founded in 1909 by Lord Lonsdale.

Check Group was founded in 1999 by Ruby Azrak, who formerly served as a president of licensing at Phat Farm, and Lawrence Jemal. The company’s other brands include NBA by UNK, Apple Bottoms by Nelly and the luxury sportswear brand Krome, among others.
