Philip Marineau is leaving Levi’s.

Marineau, CEO of Levi Strauss & Co., announced yesterday that he will retire at the end of 2006. In addition, he said that John Anderson, the current president of Levi Strauss’ Asia Pacific Division and president of the company’s global supply chain organization, has been promoted to COO, effective immediately.

“The timing is right,” said Marineau in a statement. “I have accomplished what I set out to do and have the opportunity now to turn over the operations of the company to the next generation of leadership. The business has turned around from when I joined more than six years ago and is in much stronger financial shape.”

Marineau said he made the early announcement to ensure a smooth transition of leadership and that he would remain on board until the end of the calendar year.

Bob Haas, the company’s chairman, said Levi’s board of directors would be meeting within the next two weeks to prepare succession plan and discuss the timing of naming Marineau’s replacement.
