California T-shirt brand Junk Food Clothing Co. has opened its first flagship store. The 2,700-sq.-foot (251-sq.-meter) shop is at 1103 Abbot Kinney Blvd in Venice and sells the brand’s iconic graphic tees for men, women and kids along with an assortment of complementary brands.
The other labels stocked include Level 99, McGuire, Genetic, 27Miles, Item, Baggu and Chan Juu for women; Tellason, Deep Pocket and !Item for men and Ralph Lauren, Joes Jeans, Appaman and Nununu for kids. The men’s and women’s assortments are in the front of the store and the kids’ section is in the back.
"This store represents the exciting next step in the evolution of the Junk Food brand,” said brand president Jennifer Somer. “Since it's inception, Junk Food has always evoked an aspirational lifestyle rooted in classic American references. This store gives us the opportunity to bring the brand vision to life in its entirety."
The new shop is housed in a building that was constructed in the early 1900s. The new interior was designed in partnership with Danny Gonzales, who has created interiors and displays for such brands as Ferragamo and Fendi. With its natural wood and brick walls that are washed in white plaster, the space is meant to evoke a modern beach house.
Junk Food Clothing was founded in 1998 and is carried in more than 5,000 stores worldwide. It is probably best known for its licensed pop-culture images and it boasts the rights to more than 800 licenses. These include the NBA, Star Wars and Disney, to name just a few.
