Turkish denim specialist Isko has recently set up Arquas, a new research platform focused on developing a new generation of upmarket denims and denim-related fabrics. Aim of the initiative is to reinterpret high-performance and functional activewear according to a smart, modern and cool image.

The first results of this newborn Isko’s R&D division were launched during the February 2015 edition of Ispo Munich. Isko presented a selection of 30 items made with 10 different fabrics devised for f/w 2016/2017, managed together with their own fashion design center Creative Room. Despite this first launch, much study and testing, fine tuning will continue to be carried ahead in order to build a complete new division within Isko aimed at answering the increasing market request for “athleisure” products.

Part of the items presented at Ispo were, for instance, black and grey fabrics, carrying prints and sportswear-inspired stitching details and accessories such as mesh lining details, nylon rip stops, hot fix pockets and waterproof zippers.
There were also indigo blue fabric pieces treated with particular washings that added a pure denim feeling, including inside printing and special flock prints providing garments a 3D-look; colored ribs, elastic bands and nylon details added those garments a more defined activewear “feeling”. As part of this newborn denim garment collection they also explored new denim applications such as, for instance, a compact series of high-performance indigo fabric down jackets.

“The Arquas collection arises from the experience of the unique denim technologies patented by Isko such as, for instance, our recently developed Isko Future Face and Isko Bluejym,” commented global marketing director of Sanko/Isko division. “These concepts are revolutionizing the fashion world thanks to their ‘two souls’, a cross between denim and knitwear assuring comfort and softness on the body, elements of a new concept of ‘athleisure’ and lifestyle.”

“Developing this new Arquas platform is still in a work in progress phase. Although Isko, with its solid expertise in the denim sector, can give true added value to the demanding market of activewear. We meld high performance fabrics with unique style and a trendy look: so by embracing both fashion and sports we open up possibilities for a whole new lifestyle”, continues Lucietti.
