The Helsinki Design Museum’s current exhibition entitled “Fennofolk – New Nordic Oddity” interprets new Finnish design in an unparalleled way. Art pieces by over 80 young and innovative masterminds combine Finnish art, fashion and design into a one-of-a-kind visual experience.

One of the most peculiar pieces of the exhibition is Paola Suhonen´s work called “Shining.” Suhonen has made her mark on the Finnish design industry with her brilliant pattern designs for her brand IvanaHelsinki. “Shining” is visually composed of pictures showcasing motels across the United States. The photos were taken by Suhonen herself during a road trip across the country. Printed on canvas and covered with lacquer, the photos create a captivating ambience. Added Swarovski crystal details make gloomy motel images shine and glitter like a million stars across the sky.
The exhibition runs through September 28, 2008.
