Messe München GmbH today announced the cancellation of the tradeshow ispo Summer in July (ispo.com). In agreement with the international and national business associations of the Sports industry and Sports retail, the summer edition, which was planned from 6.-8 July, will now deferred in order to concentrate on the development of a new summer concept. "There is still a big interest in a summer tradeshow for the sports segment", says CEO Manfred Wutzlhofer. “But the changes in the market during the last years ask for new definitions. We will especially turn our attention to the growing market of Sportstyle and sports inspired fashion."

Instead of the well known ispo summer, the Messe München GmbH will introduce a new Running Order Show outside the tradeshow halls, in the Munich Fashion Center M.O.C. The new dates for the event are 29 June – 1 July. Additionally, the Sports Source Europe, a new platform for suppliers, will be started as a European counterpart for the Asian sourcing show, Sports Source Asia, which debuted in 2007.

As well, the Messe München GmbH will focus on international markets with the aid of the strategic cooperation with the US Tradeshow organization Nielsen Business Media, organizer’s of the US Sports fair Action Sports Retailer (ASR), (asrbiz.com).

The cancellation of ispo summer is a surprise for the sportsmarket. Last year the traditional concept of ispo summer was transferred to the more fashion concentrated ispo Sport & Style concept, which raised a lot of criticism from industry and retail. It was just in January that the Messe München announced the return to the old ispo summer concept. January was also when - on the last day of the still very successful winter edition - the Messe München lost the pitch for the European outdoor tradeshow, OutDoor, which will stay at Lake Constance in Friedrichshafen, Germany.
