The next edition of ispo Russia, to be held on Sept. 6-8 at the Crocus Expo Center in Moscow, will be its last under Messe München GmbH, which launched the fair in 2005. Following this summer edition, the Russian joint venture partner Sports Communication Group will launch its own concept with the support of ispo Group. Details including the name of the fair and frequency are to be confirmed.

“Since the first edition of ispo Russia in summer 2005, the Russian market has changed a lot,” says Stefan Reschke, ispo Exhibition Director International. “At the beginning, a lot of brands were coming to find Russian distribution partners at the fair and left the market in the responsibility of their new partners. Consequently, the new partners did their bookings with our Russian partner.”

Ultimately, a high concentration of importers and distributors with their own stores caused structural problems for the trade fair in general and to its international character. As well, Reschke says, distributors intended to change the business platform into a consumer event with public days and shopping possibilities. “This wouldn’t fit in our ispo concept anymore, so we decided to stop the ispo concept. But we will still cooperate with our Russian partner,” he explains.

As a service to Russian retailers, ispo Group offers special arrangements to visit the international ispo shows in Munich.
