According to an annual report of real estate services adviser CBRE called “How active are retailers worldwide?”, Germany is the country that most of the surveyed retailers (40%) named as its first target market abroad in 2015, followed by the UK (33%). The third and fourth positions on this ranking are occupied by France (31%) and China (28%) respectively.

The report also analyzes the countries where more retailers are willing to settle abroad. Germany (16%), UK (16%), USA (16%) and Italy (11%) are the markets where more brands are looking to expand overseas.

In terms of preoccupations for the current year, cost escalation and unclear economic prospects were the most mentioned concerns by the asked professionals (47%). In the Americas and Asia Pacific (APAC) region, another important worry is the lack of quality retail space, reason pointed out by 57% of the interviewee.

For the elaboration of “How active are retailers worldwide”, CBRE has examined the global expansion ambitions of more than 115 retailers based in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), the Americas and Asia Pacific (APAC). Number of openings and key markets being targeted in 2015 were also explored.
