Gen Art, the US-based arts and entertainment organization devoted to nurturing the best in emerging talent, is currently accepting applications for its 11th annual Styles International Design Competition, which awards $5,000 each to winners in five categories.

The competition is open to all emerging fashion talent, including students, who have been designing under their own name for seven years or less. In 2008, the competition received more than 850 submissions from 31 countries and 32 states.

Applicants enter in one or more of five categories – women’s ready to wear, eveningwear, menswear, accessories and women’s avant-garde – by completing an information form, submitting photos of their work and paying a US$25 entry fee for each category they enter.

A panel of select editors, buyers and stylists will select five finalists in each category in early April. A panel of fashion VIPs will chose the five winners at the Styles 2009 Fashion Show in New York City on May 7, 2009.

Last year’s Styles International Design winners were Yujing Song (London) for ready to wear, Timothy Franklin (London) for menswear, Ninaki (Los Angles) for accessories, Maria Posesta (San Francisco) for avant-garde and Louisa Parris (San Francisco) for eveningwear.

The deadline for submissions is Mar. 17, 2009.
