The GDS shoe fair has announced a slight 6% rise in exhibitors, in spite of an economic downturn. Some 820 exhibitors from 32 countries will present 1,950 collections at the Düsseldorf fair, which runs Sept. 12-14. The shoe fair will also be moved into new exhibition halls, while segments have been reorganized and restructured. GDS director Kirstin Deutelmoser said, “It is nice to see that the market has accepted our new concept.” The newly assorted areas include lifestyle concepts such as urban fresh, urban authentic and white cubes (for young fashion shoe brands). The look of the hall will also feature a new clean, modern design. GDS will host a number of fashion shows, including the Upper Style Show and GDS Trend Show, and seminars by the leading Amsterdam-based Y Trend agency on topics such as how to make a sneaker line for winter and how to make a sneaker line for women. International model and actress Kimberly Stewart, daughter of rock star Rod Stewart, will open the event on Friday.
