Following Future Fashion’s hugely successful event that launched New York Fashion Week this season (see our online report) Earth Pledge (, the company behind the show, is venturing West to make a similar stand in celebration of the industry’s support for sustainable design.

Held at the same time as LA Fashion Week, on Thursday 13 March, Leslie Hoffman, executive director of Earth Pledge, will be hosting the event with Steven Kolb, executive director of the Council of Fashion Designers of America ( and Ed Mandelbaum and Barbara Kramer, co-founders of premier international trade show Designers and Agents (D&A).

The cocktail event will feature an eco-fashion installation garden-party-style on Mayor Antonio R. Villaraigosa’s lawn no less. And, in the same vein as the NYC event, will showcase exclusive pieces made entirely from sustainable textiles by the hands of seventeen all-star fashion designers including: VPL, Trovata, Magda Berliner, Rozae Nichols, Bahar Shahpar, The Stronghold and Binetti, as pictured above.

D&A (, who have long led the way on proactive green-thinking in fashion, are apt allies indeed for Earth Pledge, who’s Future Fashion initiative goes all out to work closely with the fashion industry to promote renewable, reusable, and non-polluting materials and methods in order that they eventually become the universal industry norm - and a commercially effective one at that. As D&A’s Ed Mandelbaum concedes: “This isn’t about raising awareness for its own sake. It’s about helping to make sustainability in fashion viable in terms of sales.”
