Fila Korea has recently announced its acquisition of the global Fila footwear and apparel business ( from the US holding Sports Brands International (SBI), an affiliate of Cerberus, a US-based private investment fund manager.

Yoo-Soo (Gene) Yoon, the chairman of Fila Korea who had bought the Korean subsidiary in 2004, said: “We are excited to acquire the worldwide Fila business. Fila is widely recognized as one of the premier global sports brands and we believe it has tremendous untapped potential.”

Fila was founded in Italy in 1911 and was acquired by SBI in 2003. It is sold in almost 50 countries worldwide in more than 770 stores in Europe, America and Asia.

Most of the product offered by the brand will continue to be developed in Italy. This decision confirms the new owner’s intention of maintaining the Italian identity of the brand.
