In the most recent exhibit at the Fashion Institute of Technology curator Dr. Valerie Steel and Patricia Mears have organized a mid-career tribute to a visionary designer: Isabel Toledo. “Isabel Toledo: Fashion From The Inside Out” showcases photographs, illustrations, and 70 finished and unfinished garments reflecting how she truly immerses herself in her craft. In addition, the exhibit includes watercolor drawings of many of her designs illustrated by her husband, artist Ruben Toledo. An accompanying book, available this July, will also be published; it is written by the curators and entitled Isabel Toledo: Fashion from the Inside Out. The exhibit, which also features First Lady Michelle Obama’s Inauguration Day dress, is free admission and will be running through Sept. 26.
