Germany-based retailer of rock music-inspired apparel and accessories EMP Merchandising has been purchased for an undisclosed amount by New York-based private equity firm Sycamore Partners. EMP will continue to be managed by its current chief executive officer (CEO) Ernst Trapp. The company was founded in 1986 and currently operates through its webshop in seventeen European countries including Germany, France, Spain, Italy and the UK, among others.

This is not the first retail investment of Sycamore Partners in the fashion business. The firm’s portfolio encompasses other brands such as teen brand Aéropostale and womenswear labels Stuart Weitzman and Nine West.
