It wasn’t the most convenient location, but Brooklyn’s Pier 3 proved to be a hit anyway with the fashion pack on Saturday night for Diesel’s 30th anniversary, circus-themed party in New York. While VIPs mingled on the balcony, revelers enjoyed the main floor, whose attractions included hot dog, cotton candy and funnel cake stands, trapeze artists and the main stage, where Diesel unveiled a stellar roster of musical guests, including Hot Chip, Chaka Khan, T.I., Franz Ferdinand, M.I.A. and N.E.R.D., late into the evening. Joel and Benji Madden DJed throughout the night. Renzo Rosso and Juliette Lewis made a late appearance on stage, but left the task of closing the house to Pharrell Williams and a visibly pregnant M.I.A. Parties featuring equally hot acts including Uffie, Mark Ronson and Friendly Fires were also held in 16 other cities, including Beijing, Dubai, Tel Aviv, Athens, Amsterdam, Milan, Zurich, Munich, Paris, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Barcelona, Oslo, Helsinki, London and São Paulo. Earlier today Diesel announced a 51/49 joint venture with India’s Reliance Brands Limited to bring the Italian brand and its full lifestyle offerings to India. Distribution has already been scheduled for S/S 2009 in Mumbai and Delhi. Diesel is said to be looking at Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chandigarh. Said Rosso in a statement: “We at Diesel identify with the manner in which the Indian market is deeply rooted in its heritage, yet it is also open to imbibing new ideas for a better lifestyle. In Reliance Brands we have found an ideal partner in size and management skills, but also a team of people with which we perfectly align on all strategic plans on how to develop in the Indian market.”
