Desigual has just acquired an area in Ca l'Alemany de Viladecans near Barcelona, Spain that will be used as a new logistics center for the company and will produce roughly 250 jobs. The logistics center will occupy a total area of about 80,000 sqm of the existing 110,000 with the first building phase set to start in 2013. An opening date is planned for the end of 2014.
The company's present facilities move about 22 million pieces, which will grow to about 60 million when the center is up and running. “We predict to double our capacity in terms of logistical activities,” reported Desigual CEO Manel Adell. “The aim of this operation is to better support our retail partners by increasing our efficiency in deliveries and service throughout the world, despite the fact that we already guarantee deliveries in under 48 hours all over Europe. Through this logistics pole, we will venture into new product categories such as footwear, accessories and our new home line Desigual Living while supporting the activities of our other logistic poles already operating in Asia (Hong Kong) and the US (New York).”
Desigual expects to close 2012 with a €700 million turnover, 25% more than in 2011. As of now, 75% of the Spanish company's revenues come from foreign markets with future growth expected in China, where the brand just opened its first mono-brand test store three weeks ago at a Shanghai shopping mall. Other openings are expected by September at Rome’s Via Nazionale and the Termini train station as well as in Milan's Stazione Centrale. Two new stores were also just opened in Germany at Berlin’s Boulevard and Stuttgart’s Koenigstrasse as well as on Vienna’s Maria Hilfer Strasse. All in all, 65 new stores are expected to open by the end of 2012.
