These days, sports and fashion practically go hand in hand. But what started it all? And why has it become such a fashion phenomenon? That's what the "sports inspired fashion award" contest is seeking to find answers to. The contest and award is being given by the German Clothing Industry Foundation, an independent foundation created by fashion designer Klaus Steilmann in 1977 to support and promote the next generation of designers.

The contest is open to design students who are in their fourth semester or higher at a European college or fashion school. The task is to reflect the changes in clothing behavior and to design clothing that incorporates both the emotional and functional needs of its wearer. Students must also submit a concept and analysis, as well as a presentation chart and a complete outfit. Schoeller, Polartec and Pertex are providing textiles which can be acquired from www.extremtextil.

A panel of industry experts in the design, marketing, media and trade fields will select the winners, who will receive a comprehensive communication package as well as paid internships at Berghaus in Sunderland, England and at Girbaud Active in Kitzbuhel, Austria. The best portfolio will be presented on from www.WGSN.com (Worth Global Style Network).

The deadline for registration is November 15, 2004. The submission deadline is January 11, 2005. The prize will be awarded at the next edition of ispovision--the international trade show for sports-inspired fashion--in Munich February 6 - 9, 2005 where award-winning outfits will also be on display.
