DDC Lab, the New York-based design duo of Savania Davies Keiller and Roberto Crivello, best known for their ingenious fabrications in sportswear and collaborations with companies such as PF Flyers, have announced plans to open a new concept store this October in lower SoHo, New York.

Billed a futuristic Noah’s Ark, the store at 7 Mercer Street will be completely designed with recycled or upcycled materials that the designers salvaged.

The company will also be adding the first New Balance shop-in-shop, showcasing DDC Lab’s limited edition designs on floating transparent boxes for the athletic brand, including the Tier Zero, a premium collection of hand-stitched sneakers, and a selection of PF Flyers footwear.

Other stores features include an interactive vestibule dedicated to educating the consumer on the latest innovations in fabric and technology and a special section on DDC Lab’s syllabus of fabric, textile, art and lifestyle books selected by the designers.

The inaugural installation slated for fall 2008 is by Ingeo, the natural and renewable plant resource. The seven-step process that goes into producing the performance fiber will be displayed in a passageway.

A wall of frosted glass will also divide the store into a retail space and planetarium, where DDC Lab collections will hang among live foliage on a floor of Astroturf set off by a giant salvaged tree trunk.

UPDATE: The New Balance "shop-in-shop" should be read as an area designated for DDC Lab's collaboration pieces for the brand.
