On the occasion of the ‘Mediterranean Sourcing Fair 2015’, which took place in Istanbul, Cotton USA recently hosted a special sourcing forum to discuss current supply chain strategies for cotton. The company invited about 150 industry decision-makers like European and Turkish buyers together with cotton fabric’ suppliers from Turkey, Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia. Among others, the sourcing forum was attended by representatives of Benetton, El Corte Inglés, S.Oliver, Sisley and Street One.
As a corporate statement highlights, the main concern among European buyers was the value loss of the Euro towards the Dollar, resulting in an increasing interest on sourcing regions that are close to the selling markets in order to keep the transport costs as low as possible. This situation is benefiting regions like Eastern Europe, North Africa and also Turkey.
Besides the various speeches and lectures focusing on the current challenges surrounding the cotton industry worldwide, Cotton USA hosted an introductory seminar with experts from USA, Turkey and South Africa, talking about market perspectives for cotton, the production in Turkey and new sourcing countries in Africa.
