For f/w 2016-2017 the Italian upmarket sportswear brand Moncler will launch Moncler O, an exclusive menswear special collection designed by Virgil Abloh, creative director, architect, fashion designer and creative mind of the Off-White C/O Virgil Abloh brand.

The new Moncler O is inspired by the fishermen of Northern seas and includes long jackets and puffer coats both with fixed or detachable hoods, waistcoats inspired by lifejackets, unlined and essential design parkas. Also part of the collection are anoraks with multiple pockets reinterpreting the classic waxed sailing jacket style to be offered in unlined or cold-proof padded versions. Over-size trousers are completed with elasticized waistbands and drawstrings made of MAC, a typical double waterproof cotton inspired by Britain’s nineteenth-century Navy uniforms.

All materials used in the special collection are mainly rubberized and incorporate prints featuring stormy skies, drawing inspiration directly from Scandinavian and Northern American fishermen’s attire. The leitmotiv, an Abloh hallmark, are the diagonal stripes reoccurring throughout the collection.

This new Moncler venture blends streetwear style and technical elements while weaving together categories and materials in a very new and unusual mix of aesthetic codes. Characterizing the collection are outstanding materials and details such as glossy or opaque PVCs with a velvety hand, checkered nylons with a laminate finish on the reverse, heat-sealed polyurethane films, ultra-light cottons printed with exclusive patterns and waterproof tapes and zips.

Virgil Abloh has a degree in civil engineering and a masters of architecture. Off White began as an art project based upon juxtaposition and entitled Pyrex Vision. The fashion brand Off-White C/O Virgil Abloh is a seasonal men’s and women’s collection that also features a furniture range and occasional design products, all strongly focused on reinforcing the same idea of a unique aesthetic in design.
