Jonathan Christopher and Nana van Blaaderen, both from The Netherlands, were announced as menswear and womenswear winners respectively of the 2015/16 International Woolmark Prize Europe regional final. The announcement was given in Antwerp, Belgium by Momu-Fashion Museum province of Antwerp and the Fashion Department of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp.

The judging panel was composed by Walter Van Beirendonck, Simon Chilvers, Veerle Windels, James Sleaford and Fabrizio Servente. They selected the winners among the 17 most promising talents in European fashion design. Both winners will receive a final contribution of about €33,900 and will participate in the final of the contest, each of them in their category. The menswear prize will be awarded in Florence in January 2016 and the final for the womenswear prize will be held in New York in February 2016.

“The judges’ choice for the menswear winner was unanimous. We all appreciated his innovation with merino wool,” commented Van Beirendonck referring to Christopher who also recently won the Global Denim Awards held by Kingpins Amsterdam in October 2014 (also see here).

From the womenswear judging panel, design duo An Vandervost and Filip Arickx commented: “All judges are hungry to see Nanna develop the collection for the international final. She radiates the most potential. You can see she is really in love with wool and knows how to manage the fibre.”
