The cotton industry as a global entity was the overall message at the fifth annual Sourcing USA Summit held recently in Austin, TX.

The Summit, designed to bring together global leaders along the cotton supply chain for an open exchange of ideas, was presented jointly by Cotton Council International and Cotton Inc.

Anchoring the conference was an assessment by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) of the industry through its “Seven Revolutions” analytical tool used to promote strategic thinking about long-term global trends through 2025. Titled “Cotton’s Revolutions,” the study identified three key focal areas for global cotton — resources, technology and governance — with topics ranging from world energy and cleaner irrigation to new developments in biotechnology for US cotton crops, nanotechnology’s influence on textiles and global sourcing decision-making.

Complete presentations from the Summit may be found in the Sustainability section of Cotton Inc.’s B2B website.
