Showing its support to the International Year of Natural Fibres, Cotton USA launched the “Cotton’s Natural World” T-shirt design contest. Designers from all over the world, including Germany, England, Japan, China, Thailand, Turkey, Columbia, India, Taiwan and Korea, faced the challenge of creating the best T-shirt design. In the end, Xu Di from China did the best job of assembling the various criteria. His design symbolizes in a simple but expressive way the meaning of cotton. In Buddhism Buddha’s hand and the lotus flower are symbols of nature and freedom. For the contest, Xu Di replaced the lotus flower with a cotton plant, highlighting the connection between cotton and human evolution. Because of the high participation and the topic itself, the Cotton Council International plans to hold the next Cotton design competition in 2010.
