New York-based fine accessories and object maker Black Sheep & Prodigal Sons will open its first store at 83-1/2 Orchard Street on the Lower East Side tomorrow. Inspired by “a pantheon of fringe thinkers and risk-takers under the influence of the celestial spheres,” owners Derrick R. Cruz and Christine Samar wanted to create a sense of wonderment with their store, which is uniquely annexed to the popular Vietnamese eatery An Choi. Occulter will house selected works from the Black Sheep & Prodigal Sons archive and pieces designed exclusively for the shop. The location will also host new collections and debut collaborations with other eclectic design contemporaries, beginning with Bryan Collins, the album cover designer for School of Seven Bells. Customers additionally will have exclusive access to rare books under the Ouroboros imprint and music from the labels Type, Taiga, Important and Sibling Sex Records all for sale.
