Billabong and SurfAid International, a humanitarian aid organization, have launched a global school program to alleviate poverty.

The program, which will reach school children in Australia, New Zealand, the US and Europe, is aimed at improving the learning conditions of children and students in the Mentawai Island region off the coast of West Sumatra, Indonesia. The villages of that region have one of the highest child mortality rates in the world. The region is also one of the most at-risk areas for earthquakes and tsunamis.

The SurfAid International Billabong Program will provide a dynamic opportunity for students to learn about geography, the economy, culture and health.
