The 68th edition of ispo winter 08 (ispo-winter.com), which took place in Munich, Germany this week (27 to 30 January), ended with great success on Wednesday. The International Trade Fair for Sports Equipment and Sportsstyle, held in 16 halls over 180,000 square-meters, welcomed 64,000 visitors and 2,026 exhibitors - compared to 1,970 exhibitors who showed at the last event - to its biggest show ever.

A 70 % majority of the visitors came from 113 countries outside of Germany, while exhibitors came from 47 mostly Asian and European countries. As well, 347 German, 211 Italian and 113 exhibitors from the American continent were presenting their collections at the show.

The fair covered seven segments: Boardsports, Ski, Sportstyle, Outdoor, Performance, Sourcing and finally the ispovision hall, where the most upscale sportstyle trends were presented. For the first time, the Outdoor segment was put together in four halls with a separate entrance.

Although the show made record attendance figures, the organizer of the ispo trade show, Messe München GmbH, also had to meet with disappointment following Wednesday’s announcement by the European Outdoor Group (EOG) that they will not be relocating the European OutDoor fair (european-outdoor.com) to Munich. The majority of the 47 members of the industry group voted to keep the show in Friedrichshafen, where it has been held for the past 14 years. Consequently the European OutDoor tradeshow will continue to take place on the shores of Lake Constance from 2009 to 2013. After that period, the EOG will again take a vote for a possible relocation.
