Last weekend the German capitol proved that it’s got what it takes to become one of Europe’s most important fashion cities. With three trade shows happening at once the international fashion crowd occupied Berlin for a whole three days. About 18,000 people visited Germany’s most important young fashion trade show BBB (Bread & Butter) at the former Siemens Kabelwerke on the edge of town. That was a 30% increase in visitors compared to last season’s show. With 49% the participation of visitors from abroad played an important role; particularly strong nations were Italy, Austria, UK, Netherlands, Spain and Switzerland. During the day, the crowd had to cope with nearly tropical temperatures, at night everyone had a hard time deciding where to party. All in all exhibitors, visitors and the Bread & Butter team were happy and satisfied with the event. The next BBB will be held from 16-18 January 2004.

At the same time at Potsadmer Platz in central Berlin the Premium Exhibition for sportswear couture opened for its second season, managing to attract 5,500 visitors (last season: 2000). Exhibitors included Dirk Schonberger and the Duffer of St George. Just a five minute walk away a group of ten hip hop and lifestyle brands such as Fubu and Rocawear had gathered in the Sony Center building for their own fashion event. Both events prooved to be a success and are to be continued next season.
