British brand Ben Sherman has announced changes to its management. Miles Gray, current CEO of Ben Sherman Group Ltd, will retire from his current position in January 2010 but will remain Non-Executive Chairman. His successor is Pan Philippou, former Group CEO of WDT. Philippou brings to Ben Sherman a wealth of industry experience and insight. Prior to WDT, he was Managing Director at Diesel UK, from its launch in 2003, and was then transferred to run North America as CEO.

Gray’s Non-Executive position should ensure a smooth transition from himself to the new Group CEO; he will also take on an advisory role with Ben Sherman’s holding company, Oxford Industries.

In 2000, Gray led a buy-out/management buy-in with the Ben Sherman management team acquiring a 20% stake in the business, with venture capitalists 3i Ltd and Enterprise Equity Ltd retaining the balance of the equity. In 2004, the company was sold to Oxford Industries.

During Gray’s 12 years at Ben Sherman the company progressed from a men’s shirt brand, distributed solely in Great Britain, to a full lifestyle collection with distribution in its own stores and other leading retailers in over 40 countries. Ben Sherman is currently distributed through key premium department stores worldwide and operates its own stores in major cities in the UK, USA, Germany, Australia, South Africa and the Far East.

“Ben Sherman’s successes have been the highlight of my career,” said Gray. “I have had the pleasure of working with a fantastic team in both the parent group, Oxford Industries Inc. and within Ben Sherman. I have no doubt that Ben Sherman will continue to develop successfully under the guidance of Pan Philippou as he takes on the role of Group CEO at such an exciting time for the brand.”
