American Sporting Goods, Inc. (ASG) has acquired the basketball footwear and apparel company AND 1.

ASG, an athletic footwear and apparel company based in Irvine, California, had been looking to build its presence in the young, male consumer demographic and the international markets.

“The acquisition of AND 1 is a perfect strategic fit for our company,” said Kevin Wulff, CEO and president of ASG.

“It complements our multi-brand business model by providing strength to areas within ASG that need it, such as the very large consumer group of teen boys and young adult basketball enthusiasts and our underdeveloped international and apparel business, just to name a few.”

ASG, which has revenues in excess of $220 million annually, presently owns Avia, Ryka, Nevados, Yukon, Turntec, NSS and Apex.

AND 1 CEO Seth Berger will now report directly to Wulff.

Bear, Stearns & Co. Inc. was the exclusive financial advisor to AND 1 in the acquisition.
