Adidas Group and the Russian Football Union recently unveiled in the prestigious location of GUM the new official uniform of Russia’s national team to be worn during the preliminary and, hopefully, final stages of the World Football Championship 2010 in South Africa.

The press conference was held by Vitaly Mutko, Minister of Sport, Tourism and Youth Policy of the Russian Federation and President of the Russian Football Union, Martin Shankland, Managing Director of Adidas Group in Russia & CIS, Gus Hiddink, Coach, and Sergey Semak, Captain of the national football team.

Adidas has had a long history with the Soviet football team, but the new project, started only a year ago, is part of a global strategy on the Russian front, where Adidas Group is the clear leader with a market share more than twice the size of its nearest competitor. It is designated to become the Group’s biggest market in Europe by 2010.

The uniform created for the Russian football squad of a distinctive deep red color has an exclusive design using some of the cutting-edge technologies, such as Formotion and Climacool, that improve comfort and enhance performance.

Russia’s football fans will also be able to share their favorite team’s spirit by purchasing the new uniform in Adidas stores all over Russia.

The first match to be played with the new uniform against Azerbajdjan was on Mar. 28 in Moscow.
