“Sneakers have been a part of my life just as much as snowboarding and skateboarding, and I hope to bring to board sports what New Balance has done in the performance and lifestyle categories,” explained Michael Akira West, Owner and Creative Director of 686, which teamed up with the Boston-based athletic brand to produce a limited edition collection of outerwear, footwear, boots and accessories for this fall.

“Combining the two brands will definitely create excitement; however, the hype I’m looking for is being backed by performance, delivery and sell-through,” West adds.

The 686 and New Balance Times Collection comprises updates of the iconic 580 and 420 runners, with sleek materials and contemporary, clean styles. The Times New Balance Snowboard Boot, meanwhile, features the BOA FOCUS system, Recco avalanche technology, and New Balance’s proprietary Rollbar stability and Abzorb cushioning.

The 686 and New Balance Times Collection launches next week at the SIA trade show in Las Vegas and at Ispo in Munich the following week.

Entering its fourth year, the 686 Times Line has seen collaborations between 686 and brands such as Famous, Levi’s, New Era and Vestal.
