In the latest issue of Sportswear International we wanted an animal touch. So we asked Menswear Dog, a.k.a. Bodhi, a 6-year-old Shiba Inu who has won hearts all over the world as the most stylish dog on the planet thanks to his Tumbler, Instagram, Facebook and Twitter posts along with his campaigns for such brands as Coach, Victorinox and Brooks Brothers, among others, a few questions. With the help of his creative team headed by his caretakers/stylists/spokespersons Yena Kim and David Fung, natural model talent and impeccable personal style, he has become menswear's dapper canine mascot–proving that anything can be accomplished if you're dressed for the part. His fashion-advice book Menswear Dog Presents The New Classics: Fresh Looks for the Modern Man was published by Artisan in April 2015. Read what he says about fashion bitches, Kanye West and must-have items.

Have you always been interested in fashion, even as a puppy?

Yes, I was born with it; it's in my blood.

How do you balance the work/life challenge of being a dog and a supermodel?

I have a full-time caretaker who balances most things for me, so mostly I just show up and look good.

What are some of your favorite denim and casualwear outfits?

Denim is such a versatile and durable part of a man's wardrobe. I have a denim trucker jacket in pretty much every shade. Throw on a trucker jacket over a white tee and black jeans, top it off with sunglasses and a fresh pair of white sneakers and you're good to go.

One's leash should always coordinate with his outfit. Yes or no?

I have a black leather leash that goes with most outfits–I think of them as the dog version of belts. When I'm wearing a lot of navy, I like to switch it up with a brown leash.

What are your biggest pet peeves about the fashion world?

Once, I was refused entry into a fashion show after-party because I'm a dog and I wasn't wearing any pants. They also said my fur might shed into the cocktails. I guess I understand the dress code but my ego was hit, and I just wish we could all get along.

What are some must-have items that every man (or well-dressed dog) should own?

A well-fitting, crisp white shirt, blue jeans, khaki trousers, a gray or navy suit, a versatile leather jacket, a breton striped shirt and a denim trucker jacket. In my book The New Classics I discuss how these pieces create a crucial backbone (hah) to a hard-working, classic man's wardrobe. Best of all, I get to flex my “Blue Steel” throughout the book since I model all the looks, with head-to-toe styling suggestions.

What will your next fashion purchases be?

A pair of dark shades, so I can hide from all the puparazzi.

If you had to choose one: The runway or the dog run?

The runway every time.

When you hear the word "heel" what is your first thought: Canine discipline or footwear?

Footwear, obviously.

Who are some of your "top dog" designers and labels at the moment?

I really love what Hedi Slimane did with Saint Laurent–he brought a sense of excitement, youth and x-factor to the brand and I'm looking forward to his next moves. I would love to wear Haider Ackermann someday.

Fashion is full of a bunch of catty bitches. Agree or disagree?

Disagree–fashion bitches be fabulous.

Where do you like to shop?

I like to try on clothes before I buy because the fit is always so important. Many of my clothes are tailor-made for me but when I do go out, I hit up Barneys, Bloomingdale’s for trend analysis and accessories–and SoHo to shop for clothes, since all my favorite stores are in the area.

Where can one best sniff out bargains?

I'm in New York City so there's always sample sales to take advantage of, but if you're in the mood to find some threads with history and wear, head to the East Village for an amazing range of vintage shops.

How important is diet and exercise to you?

It's a priority when you're a model–I try to run three times a week and I get prepared a grain-free, rich fiber diet. I too, have occasional cheat days and that's when I can go all out with a home-cooked steak dinner.

What's your take on Kanye's role/place in fashion?

I think he's a talented musician. Next question?

If you could throw an all-animal version of The Met Gala who would be on your guest list?

All the above mentioned fabulous fashion bitches and my homies from the dog park. Bill Murray would host the Gala and we would just live stream ourselves getting painted by artists. Bucket list.

Boxers or briefs? And how do you feel about Boxers (the breed) who wear boxers? OK or overkill?

Love Boxers (the breed) and whether you prefer boxers of briefs is a conversation best left between a man and his private parts.

Dogs supposedly age 7x faster than humans. What is your secret to looking so young?

A combination of diet, exercise and flawless genes–no secrets here.

What would be your advice to the next generation of dapper dog wannabes?

Respect the game and always wear cologne.

Do you think you will ever expand your fashion influence/empire by taking on a Womenswear Dog too?

Who told you that? Did my agent tell you that? Because it's just me, Menswear Dog. That's it.
