Designer Freddie Rojas at Pool

Show Report: Pool Trade ShowThis season’s edition of the Pool trade show, which ended its three-day run at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas yesterday, was heavy on humor and irony. The refreshing brand mix included several T-shirt labels whose graphics prompted laughs.
Among them was Oddsome, a Canada-based brand with a logo that features a donkey and chicken, two underappreciated animals according to CEO Dre Bennett. Its shirt messages included riffs on hipster hot spots with the question: Where The Fuck is Brooklyn New York? (and Los Angeles, Paris and Seoul, Korea options). It also had a cute “Laundry Day T-Shirt” model.
Accessories brand Freaker USA from North Carolina showed its vast collection of drink insultators from a trailer-style booth. And LA-based designer Freddie Rojas chuckled as he showed us the bucket hat he created from dead stock Ralph Lauren fabric with teddy bears. All in all, Pool was a refreshing reminder that creativity is alive and well in the young and/or independent design community.
