Diesel's new concept store in Tokyo

On November 20, Diesel opened its first large-scale global concept store in Tokyo's Shibuya district. The two-floor space, which includes an art gallery and café, offers the Diesel, Diesel Black Gold and home collections as well as a range of souvenir goods.

Diesel chief Renzo Rosso was present in Tokyo for the opening reception which saw many celebrities, including Japanese artist Takashi Murakami, party into the night. Rosso has a high profile in Japan which also happens to be Diesel's largest market with more than 100 Diesel stores and an impressive 4.8% increase in sales in 2009.

The gallery space is host to an exhibition by leading contemporary British artist Simon Henwood and emerging Swedish designer Fannie Schiavoni. The exhibit "Black Sun" sees Henwood, whose multi-disciplinary career has seen him work with Rihanna and Kanye West, in addition to a prolific output of paintings and video work, weave paintings, photography and sculpture with the metallic chain designs of Schiavoni who is known as one of the most exciting young designers to come out of Europe in recent years.

November also marks the 10th anniversary of the Diesel music project DIESEL:U:MUSIC with the label holding a celebratory bash with DJs, including Kenny Dope, Idjut Boys, Breakbot and Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, entertaining a crowd of over 2,000 at Tokyo club Camelot.
