Agenda NYC: Successful housewarming party
Street, skate and lifestyle trade show Agenda settled into its new New York City digs at Javits Center North as comfortably and easily as SoCal surfer throwing on a pair of sunglasses, shorts, Vans slip-ons and heading directly to the beach.
With about 250 brands, the show seemed less hectic and chaotic compared to its previous editions at its former tight quarters in SoHo. However, despite its more commercial environment, the energetic event still featured crowded aisles and fantastic collections. Once again, a casual, somewhat devil-may-care vibe was evident in the air and was lubricated/encouraged by a free beer at the Burton booth and the smell of pot in the outside smoking section.
While urban-driven mesh and street looks remained key, there was also a bit of a fashion backlash with holiday plaids (yep, yet again) at 10Deep, for instance.
Burton offered snowboard-looking silhouettes in lightweight fabrics for spring 2015 while Vision Street Wear pushed logo-driven mesh shirts and painter’s caps, a hat that brand rep Mark Encinias said was especially well received during the show. Canadian underwear brand Saxx (named for its trademark support pouch) showed both its performance and lifestyle models and said it had a great show.
Stance socks unveiled its new higher end “gold” collection, industry veteran Tim Gavin introduced his new footwear line called Filament and Canadian footwear brand Native Shoes showed its newest silhouette, The Apollo, which is based on a moccasin.
In addition, LA-based denim brands Kennedy Denim and Golden Denim proved that stylish jeans don’t have to be expensive. Both brands retail for under $100 and say that they are doing a bang-up business.
The next Agenda show runs August 18-20 in Las Vegas.
